I am currently working on new ways I can talk about the latest discoveries the scientists in our labs are making! I’m planning to make new videos, do interviews, make animations and even create science memes 😎 I’m having a look at some cool equipment I can use to show everyone our experiments – like using 360Β° cameras, drones and GoPros! πŸ“ΈπŸŽ₯

I am currently working on a discovery, and that discovery will lead me to an invention πŸ™‚

The discovery I am working on is the 3D shape of a protein that helps cancer cells multiply fast and invade our entire bodies.

If I figure out that 3D shape, I will be able to design a new medicine that attacks and kills this protein, and so the cancer cells cant multiply anymore.. so That would be the invention of a new treatment to kill cancer!

I’m working on a few different things right now! At the company I work for, people usually have several projects they’re part of at the same time, which is nice if you enjoy variety. So at the moment, I’m looking at a certain material used on submarines to find out how it changes as it gets older, and whether those changes make it less good at doing its job. I’m also trying to find better ways of measuring how materials squash down when they’re deep underwater. If a material is very soft, touching it to measure it can make it squash further, so I’m trying to find out if we can use cameras & some clever computer software to make these measurements without touching the material. And I’m trying to make & measure a fairly new material that might be used to help hide submarines, to see if it could be as good as (or better than) the materials we use at the moment.

I am currently working on genes that control or we think are involved in our development. Quite often, we use different species to look at our own development so I am comparing humans genes to those of mice and moles to see how their development is different to ours.
I’m especially interested to see if moles eye development are similar to ours because this particular species – the Iberian mole (Talpa occidentalis) is thought to be blind, but they have perfectly formed eyes.
