Have just spent some time on google looking at this and it looks like it would be a really, really, really huge explosion! Massive amounts of water and sand being chucked up into the air, fish flying everywhere – maybe it would look a bit like that film, Sharknado… Makes me glad that francium is extremely rare haha! 💥💦🐠

      Thats a great question.

Francium is a very hyper and excited metal.. and it loves water more than itself, so if you even have a drop of water near it, it will quickly grab onto the water and hold it tightly. This kind of binding always releases energy..and since francium is hyper and binds very tightly and quickly, the energy released is so huge that it would be a dangerous explosion!

There would certainly be some sort of explosion! But how big depends on how much francium you had to put in the ocean–as Varun says, energy is released from francium grabbing onto water, so more francium could grab more water & release more energy. Even if you just had a small amount, though, I’d still call this one a “don’t try this at home”!
