yes it can easily be. Things do not go always as you like them to go, people are not always as nice as you would like them to be.

Yes definitely. One thing I wasn’t prepared for as a scientist would be how many times you would experience failure. My experiments wouldn’t work, I didn’t get the result I hoped for or we didn’t get the research grant we wanted! I’ve learned now to accept this, that failure will always be a part of my career and I think it has made me a less stressful person. It is still not very nice though!

Absolutely! Sometimes things don’t work out the way you expect them to, or an important piece of equipment breaks, or someone else leaves the lab in a really messy state & you have to tidy up after them… but the important thing is usually to keep going. In the end, if something doesn’t work the way you expected, that usually means you have a chance to learn something new in figuring out *why* it didn’t work as expected. And when you eventually do find the answer, it’s very satisfying.

Yes, of course..whenever things go wrong after you put in a lot of effort. It happens to every scientist and that’s why my fellow scientists at the laboratory are always there to help me out of such situations and likewise, I am there for them.

Scientists are one big family, so if you ever feel low at work, you don’t have to deal with it all alone.

Yes! It can be quite tricky to make all of the science I write about understandable AND interesting. Sometimes, it isn’t! The science is always important, yes. But sometimes so complicated and so detailed. It is also quite difficult to get answers from people sometimes – I end up making lots of phone calls to chase things up!
