The hardest part is mostly when things don’t work. This can happen quite frequently and often you can never find out why either. This means my focus on a project sometimes can loose track, but I’ve found it is a normal part of science!
But more specifically in my job, the hardest part is when I try to get the proteins out of the cells, because proteins are delicate and can break easily. So I need to be careful and perform many steps to ensure my proteins don’t get destroyed….and if they do, I will know only after a whole long day of work. By then, I am completely exhausted and will have to do it again the next day.
It is hard when people don’t get back to me! Sometimes, I have to chase emails, chase phone calls and sometime, i even chase people down corridors 🙋♀️🏃♀️ There will be times where i just have to stop one of my pieces of work and start something new while i wait for someone to reply!
Hardest part of me is hearing a patient has died after bring attacked or overdosed. I normally expect them to see them in my clinic and then find out they are deceased.
